SRINAGAR: A constable was injured in a gunfight that broke out in Srinagar early today after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) foiled an attack on its camp in the city's Karannagar area. At around 4am, a guard noticed two armed men moving towards the camp. "He fired, forcing them to flee from the bylanes," the CRPF spokesperson said. During a search operation, some gunshots were exchanged in a nearby building. "As the militants could not enter the camp, they took refuge in some abandoned buildings nearby. The exchange of fire is on," the spokesperson said. The latest gunfight in the border state came on the day the army was paying tributes to five of its men who were among the six people killed in an attack on its facility in Jammu's Sunjuwan. The CRPF camp is close to the SMHS Hospital, where militants struck on February 6. Two policemen were martyred and a hardened Lashkar terrorist managed to flee from custody.
